Product Introduction

Sodium copper chlorophyllin is a natural water-soluble pigment (mainly a mixture of sodium copper chlorophyllin a and b) obtained from the chlorophyllin of plants (such as spinach, silkworm excrement, and alfalfa) through saponification and copperification reactions. Its core characteristics are a stable green hue and natural origin. It also possesses multiple functions including coloring, antibacterial properties, and antioxidant effects, and is widely used in the food and daily chemical industries. It is a classic natural pigment that combines safety and practicality.

Ingredient

Chemical Composition: Primarily composed of sodium copper chlorophyllin a (C₃₄H₃₁CuN₄NaO₆) and sodium copper chlorophyllin b (C₃₄H₃₀CuN₄NaO₇), which are isomers. In commercial products, the ratio is approximately 3:1. Purity is typically ≥95% (food grade/daily chemical grade), free of complex and harmful impurities.

Physical Properties: At room temperature, it is a blue-black powder or dark green crystals. It is readily soluble in water, producing a bright blue-green aqueous solution. It is slightly soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol .It exhibits good heat resistance, remaining color stable in processing environments below 100℃. Under light, it is less prone to fading than natural chlorophyllin.

Chemical Properties: Its stability is significantly superior to natural chlorophyllin. It exhibits strong acid and alkali resistance (color stable within a pH range of 3-11) and is not easily oxidized or decomposed. However, it may change color upon contact with strong oxidizing agents or heavy metal ions; therefore, it should be stored away from these substances.
