Functions
Baicalin is a flavonoid compound extracted and isolated from the root of Scutellaria baicalensis. It is a light yellow powder at room temperature and has a bitter taste. Difficult to dissolve in methanol, ethanol, slightly soluble in chloroform and nitrate based benzene, almost insoluble in water, soluble in hot acetic acid. When encountering ferric chloride, it appears green, and when encountering lead acetate, it forms an orange precipitate. Dissolved in alkali and ammonia water, it initially appears yellow and soon turns black brown.
